When Anurag Kashyap’s Nishaanchi hit theatres in September this year, it failed to leave a mark at the box office despite getting positive reviews from the audience. The film hardly earned Rs 1.5 crore in India and was later released on the OTT platform, Amazon Prime Video. Since the movie failed to gain traction in theatres, Kashyap dropped the film’s sequel also on OTT. Months after, the filmmaker has now reacted to Nishaanchi’s box office failure.
On Thursday, Kashyap attended the teaser launch event of his upcoming movie Dacoit when CNN-News18 Showsha asked him if he was disheartened due to Nishaanchi’s performance at the box office. The filmmaker joked that he is used to it and stated, “I am used to it (laughs). I probably expected a little
bit more. I realised it on the second day. Because it was one film, we decided to put both parts together on OTT. It was a file produced by Amazon, so I am okay.”
Nishaanchi – Plot and cast
Anurag Kashyap directed the film, which stars Aaishvary Thackeray in a feisty double role. The drama also has a superb cast, including Vedika Pinto, Kumud Mishra, Monika Panwar, and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub in key roles. The film, produced by Ajay Rai and Ranjan Singh under the brand of Jar Pictures in partnership with Flip Films, promises a riveting cinematic experience.
Nishaanchi delves into the strained relationship between two brothers who take divergent courses and shape their own fates via their decisions. Anurag Kashyap’s distinctive style is used to combine love, rivalry, and conflict in this film. Set in early-2000s Uttar Pradesh, the film tells the narrative of twin brothers Babloo and Dabloo, who embark on diametrically opposed adventures. Babloo’s tender love for Rinku (played by Vedika Pinto) is at the heart of the story, which is complicated by Dabloo’s arrival, causing tension and emotional distress.
