In what might come as a major blow to five-time champions Chennai Super Kings, star all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after fracturing his right foot during the match against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday, May 2.
Ghosh, who made his IPL debut against the Mumbai Indians on Saturday, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament because of the injury. TV cameras had captured Ghosh hobbling off the field after completing his third over, though the team has yet to announce a replacement.
A pace-bowling allrounder, Ghosh rose to prominence as Maharashtra’s breakout performer in the 2025–26 domestic season.
“OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Ramakrishna Ghosh sustained a fracture to his right foot during the CSK v MI match at Chepauk,”
Chennai Super Kings tweeted on Sunday evening.

Hailing from Maharashtra, Ghosh was bought by CSK for Rs 30 lakh at last year’s auction. He first grabbed attention with his aggressive stroke play and ability to deliver in pressure situations during the death overs.
Last year, Ghosh also became only the 12th player to claim seven or more wickets in a Vijay Hazare Trophy game. He has played under CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in domestic cricket.
In Saturday’s match against the Mumbai Indians, Ghosh returned figures of 1/24 from his three overs, including the prized wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. He had earlier made an impact in just the second over, pulling off a sharp diving catch off Anshul Kamboj’s bowling to dismiss Will Jacks.
CSK have been plagued by injury concerns throughout IPL 2026. Star pacer Khaleel Ahmed, Ayush Mhatre and Nathan Ellis have all been ruled out, while MS Dhoni is yet to feature in a single match in the 19th edition of the tournament.
