Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that India’s cooperation with the European Union (EU) could help bring stability to a global order facing turmoil.
Addressing a joint press meet with European
Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, the Prime Minister stressed multilateralism and called for a reform in global institutions to address today’s challenges.
PM Modi said that India has held detailed discussions with the EU on several global issues, including Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific.
“Today, there is major turmoil in the global order. In such a situation, the partnership between India and the European Union will strengthen stability in the international system. In this context, today we held detailed discussions on several global issues, including Ukraine, West Asia, and the Indo-Pacific. Respect for multilateralism and international norms is our shared priority. We also agree that to address today’s challenges, global institutions need reform,” PM Modi said.

The Prime Minister hailed the Free Trade Agreement between India and the EU as a “new blueprint for shared prosperity”. “Today is a historic day; we are opening a new chapter in our relations on trade, security, and people-to-people ties,” he added.

India-EU Committed To Lasting Peace In Ukraine: Costa
Costa said that India and the EU have affirmed our commitment to supporting efforts towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
President of the European Council, António Luís Santos da Costa, says, “In our summit, we affirmed our commitment to supporting efforts towards a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine, one that fully respects Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is a key moment. We are supporting all efforts to reach a just and sustainable peace. Ukraine has shown its readiness, including at the cost of a difficult compromise. I know, dear Prime Minister, that we can count on you to help create conditions for peace through dialogue and diplomacy,” he said.
What joint India-EU statement Said On Ukraine, Gaza & Iran
As per the joint India-EU statement, the two sides have expressed concern over the ongoing Ukraine war, which continues to cause immense human suffering and carries global consequences.
“Both sides will continue to support efforts towards the achievement of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine through dialogue and diplomacy, based on the principles of the UN Charter and of international law, including independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” it said.
On Gaza, India and European leaders noted the adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 2803 of 17 November 2025, which welcomes the establishment of the Board of Peace and authorises an International Stabilisation Force, as outlined in the Comprehensive Plan, as a step forward to end the conflict.
They also called for a just and lasting solution, based on the implementation of the two-State solution, through dialogue and diplomacy.
As per the statement, the two sides also discussed the recent developments of concern in Iran and the region, underscoring the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving issues in a peaceful manner.
