For years, the internet’s relationship with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s choices at the Cannes Film Festival could be described as highly anxious. As the festival’s ultimate global ambassador for over two decades, her red carpet reveals have routinely polarised critics, often caught between safe silhouettes or experimental shapes that split opinion.
But at Cannes 2026, she has hit a home run. Working with a creative vision spearheaded by celebrity stylist Mohit Rai and his team, the Bollywood superstar is executing a textbook style turnaround. The crowning moment of this new era arrived during her viral sit-down interview with Brut India. Stepping away from standard press-day dressing, Rai delivered pure, unapologetic glamour in a custom beige embellished
gown and feather cape by international label Fjolla Nila.
What Aishwarya Wore At Cannes 2026
The custom Fjolla Nila piece leans away from the minimalist, simplistic looks sweeping global runways and made waves in a look that had a classic movie-star geometry. The foundation consists of a fitted, strapless beige column gown, meticulously covered in sweeping, geometric paths of silver crystal beadwork. The embellishment is mapped to contour her frame, but the highlight of the look is the oversized, floor-length feather cape draped loosely over her shoulders. The blush-tinged beige plumage had a gorgeous movement on frame.
To let the high-texture dress dominate, the styling team opted for fresh, unforced beauty details. Her rich mahogany hair was styled into soft, natural waves parted down the center, cascading freely over the feather coat. For the glam profile, the makeup artist bypassed her predictable signature red lip for a sophisticated, glossy mauve-nude pout, paired with soft smoky eyes and heavily highlighted cheekbones.
The feather-draped interview look comes on the heels of another massive fashion win. Making her highly anticipated first appearance on the 79th Cannes red carpet, Aishwarya Rai stunned global media in an electrifying blue “Luminara” couture gown by Indian master-craftsman Amit Aggarwal.
The architectural marvel took over 1,500 hours of handwork to assemble. Rendered in a deep, cosmic abyss-blue, the garment was engineered with thousands of linear crystalline lines. Featuring structural, wing-like extensions emerging from the shoulders, the look combined organic biomimicry with sharp geometry, setting the stage for what has undeniably become her most successful, stylish Cannes run in recent memory.
