A skin-whitening cream has raised alarm on social media after it was revealed that women who used it developed kidney problems over a span of two years. The incident happened in Maharashtra’s Nagpur, where reportedly 18 women developed kidney problems after using a cream named Goree Beauty Cream, available on Meesho and said to be made in Pakistan.
The post shared by Chirag Barjatya, who describes himself as a health creator, claimed that laboratory tests conducted by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that the cream contained 752 times the legally permissible limit of mercury.
“18 women in Nagpur, Maharashtra, complained about kidney problems to their doctors in the span of two years,” he wrote. “Doctors saw a pattern and
checked that all of them were using this Pakistani cream sold by many Instagram pages and Meesho.” He added, “FDA Maharashtra took the cream samples. Sent to lab and found out that it has 752x mercury present in it above the legal limits. Yes, 752x.”
“Throw It RIGHT AWAY!”
He explained that mercury is a highly toxic heavy metal and, in this case, is allegedly used because it suppresses the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour. By blocking melanin-producing cells, the cream can make the skin appear lighter in a relatively short period. “In reality, that’s chemical damage that looks like fairness. And guess what, our skin absorbs mercury and keeps getting deposited in the kidneys all the time,” he said.
The creator urged people to check whether their family members, particularly those living in smaller towns or rural areas, were using the cream. “I know you might not be using this cream or Meesho, but please check around, especially with your house help and your family members back in hometown, if they are using this cream, please ask them to throw it RIGHT AWAY!!!” he mentioned.

“How Is It Even Allowed In India?”
As expected, the post caught the eye of other users on the platform, who expressed their shock and questioned how the product was available for purchase online.
“But why is made-in-Pakistan cream? Aur yeh yahan kyu bikh rahi hai,” asked one user.
A different person said, “This is the most sought-after cream in rural areas.”
Someone else expressed their shock, saying, “People are using Meesho for face cream. Oh my god.”
“Which dumb, brainless person uses a made-in-Pakistan product? How did it even product land in India and be sold online? I guess it’s not legal to sell it in India and that too online,” remarked another person.
“People are buying ₹400 cream made in Pakistan. This is absurd. I don’t know what the authorities are thinking, and how is it even allowed in India?” commented a user.
An individual said, “Govt should ban this cream and all other products manufactured by this Pakistani company.”
