Former Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta died by suicide at his residence in Noida, police said. The retired IAS officer’s body was found at his flat in a residential society in Sector 82.
Police from the Phase-2 police station reached the spot after receiving information about the incident. The body has been taken into custody and an investigation is underway.
A suicide note was reportedly recovered from the scene. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding his death and verifying the contents of the note, reports said.
Who Was Rakesh Mehta?
Rakesh Mehta served as Delhi’s Chief Secretary from 2007 to 2010 during the tenure of then Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
A 1981-batch IAS officer, Mehta held several key administrative positions, including senior roles
in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).
Low-floor buses were introduced in Delhi during his tenure as Chief Secretary as part of efforts to modernise the city’s public transport system.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading to his death.
