A 33-year-old Indian-origin man was found dead in the US state of Kansas a day after he went missing when his car was swept away by floodwaters in Summer County.
The incident took place on Saturday as Venkatesh Doppalaudi, from Andhra Pradesh and residing in Elkhorn of Neb, was swept away in the S. Oliver Road area near Wellington in Kansas due to heavy rainfall.
According to a report by KWCH, deputies went to the 600 block of South Oliver Road after the report came in of a submerged vehicle on the west side of the bridge.
As the current of the floodwaters prevented the Wellington Fire Department from entering the water, a Kansas Highway Patrol Air Unit along with a police drone assisted in the search. However, the search was suspended until Sunday
after four hours of searching.
It is reported that though the car was soon recovered, the driver remained unaccounted for.
On Sunday, the Summer County Sheriff’s Office announced the recovery of the driver’s body, about 1/4 mile downstream from Oliver Road.
