Authorities at the Dhandayudhapani Swamy Temple have lodged a police complaint after a youth allegedly accessed the temple’s public address system and played a song associated with actor-politician Vijay. The incident, which occurred at the hill shrine in Palani, has prompted an internal inquiry into security arrangements.
According to PTI, the episode took place along the ‘Yaanai Paadhai’ (Elephant Path) route within the temple premises. A video circulating on social media shows an unidentified individual connecting his mobile phone to the temple’s audio console and playing a Vijay song at high volume. The track has reportedly been used by Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), as part of its election campaign.
Temple sources
cited by PTI said the youth gained unauthorised access to the microphone station, which is ordinarily reserved for devotional hymns and security announcements. The access allegedly occurred during a brief interval when staff were not present at the desk. He is believed to have linked his phone directly to the sound system before broadcasting the song.
Footage of the incident shows devotees reacting with surprise, while some appear to reprimand the youth as the music plays through the speakers in the religious setting. Police officials stated that efforts are underway to identify the individual involved by tracing the digital trail of the video and examining possible accomplices.
In addition to filing an FIR, the temple administration has initiated a departmental review to determine how the breach occurred and to assess lapses in oversight.
The incident comes at a politically significant time for Vijay, who recently announced his decision to enter electoral politics. His party, TVK, is preparing to contest the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
On the professional front, Vijay is awaiting the release of what has been described as his final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. The film’s release was postponed after the Central Board of Film Certification did not grant certification in time. The producers subsequently approached the court, citing potential financial losses of ₹500 crore due to the delay. However, the court ruled in favour of the CBFC. A new release date has yet to be announced.
Jana Nayagan features an ensemble cast including Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain and Priyamani. The project is reportedly a remake of the 2023 Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.
