The conversation in Mumbai’s film circles has shifted from box office numbers to safety. With multiple actors receiving threats in recent weeks, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has now formally stepped in. The powerful film workers’ body has written to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis seeking an urgent meeting to address growing security concerns across the entertainment industry. In its letter, FWICE warned of what it called an increasingly unsafe environment. “In recent days, several eminent and renowned personalities from the film, television, and digital media industry have reportedly received threats and have been subjected to alarming security scares,” the letter stated. Industry On Edge The federation
said the repeated incidents raise serious questions about whether the current security framework is adequate. While public attention focuses on high-profile stars, FWICE stressed that the fallout affects thousands behind the scenes. The organisation represents technicians, daily wage workers, backstage crew and other professionals whose livelihoods depend on smooth production schedules. “The prevailing environment of fear is beginning to affect shooting schedules, production planning, and overall morale within the industry,” the body wrote. According to FWICE, uncertainty and anxiety are now impacting routine functioning across studios and sets.
Bollywood actors get threats
The appeal comes amid a string of incidents. Actor Aayush Sharma recently received a threat email. This followed a threatening WhatsApp voice note sent to actor Ranveer Singh demanding crores of rupees. Earlier, five rounds were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence on January 31. Five accused have since been arrested.
These developments have pushed the federation to formally escalate the matter.
Appeal To The Government
FWICE underlined that Mumbai remains the heart of India’s film and television industry, making state-level intervention crucial.
The body urged the government to strengthen preventive mechanisms, improve coordination with law enforcement and ensure visible security measures.
Expressing faith in the Chief Minister’s leadership, the letter read, “We firmly believe that under your able leadership and guidance, effective measures can be undertaken to address these concerns promptly and decisively.”
The federation has requested an early meeting to present the matter in detail and seek concrete steps to safeguard the media and entertainment fraternity.
