Mohamed Salah has apologised to his Liverpool teammates after his recent explosive interview, midfielder Curtis Jones has revealed.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Jones said the Egyptian forward addressed the squad directly following his public outburst, reassuring teammates that there were no lingering issues inside the dressing room.
“Mo is his own man — he can say what he wants,” Jones said. “He apologised to us and said, ‘If I’ve affected anyone or made you feel any sort of way, I’m sorry.’ That’s the man he is.”
Salah sparked controversy after Liverpool’s Premier League draw with Leeds United on December 6, when he criticised the club and head coach Arne Slot. The 33-year-old claimed he had been made a scapegoat for Liverpool’s sluggish start to
the season and hinted his time at Anfield could be nearing its end.
Despite the headlines, Jones insisted the episode did not fracture squad unity, with players remaining fully aligned.
Liverpool, who won the league last season, have endured a difficult campaign and currently sit seventh in the table on 26 points — 10 adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Earlier on Friday, Slot played down the situation, confirming there were no ongoing issues with Salah. The forward was left out of the squad for Liverpool’s 1-0 Champions League win at Inter Milan on December 9 but returned to provide an assist off the bench in a 2-0 victory over Brighton last weekend before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.
