Aditya Dhar is celebrating a big milestone as Uri: The Surgical Strike completes seven years since its release. On January 11, the filmmaker shared a social media post reflecting on his debut film and how the experience shaped his life and career. The reflection comes at a time when Dhar is also enjoying massive box office success with his latest directorial, Dhurandhar.
Sharing his thoughts on Instagram Stories, Aditya Dhar wrote, “11th January 2019. A day that changed my life forever. My first film, Uri, was released that day. I had waited a long time for that moment. My dream finally became a reality.”
He further explained the vision behind the film, adding, “The intent was clear from the beginning: to make a brave, bold film that could signal
a new phase in our cinema. To tell an Indian story with international standards.”
The Reality Of Filmmaking
Dhar also spoke honestly about the challenges of the profession. In his post, he said, “I remind myself often to never forget where it all began. Beginnings keep you grounded and hungry.”
Calling filmmaking a demanding process, he added, “Filmmaking is a hard, unforgiving journey, full of doubt and long nights. But when the audience shows up and embraces your work, every struggle suddenly makes sense. That feeling makes it all worth it.”
About Uri: The Surgical Strike
Released in 2019, Uri: The Surgical Strike was directed by Aditya Dhar and was based on the 2016 Indian Army surgical strikes. The film starred Vicky Kaushal as Major Vihaan Singh Shergill, with Yami Gautam playing a key role. Vicky Kaushal’s performance received widespread praise, especially for his physical transformation and commanding screen presence. The role went on to become one of the most defining performances of his career.
