Kota, Jul 25 (PTI) A massive fire broke out in a four-story commercial-cum-residential building located near Ghorewalebaba circle here on Saturday afternoon, authorities said. No casualties were reported.
The complex housed footwear showrooms, offices, a warehouse, and residential space. The building sustained extensive damage and large quantities of goods stocked went up in smoke.
The blaze started in a footwear showroom on the ground floor of the complex, authorities said. It was triggered by a short circuit at around 4.45 pm.
The building was swept in flames in no time, Rakesh Vyas, chief fire officer at Kota Nagar Nigam, said.
Families living on the upper floors of the complex escaped by jumping onto the adjacent rooftop before emergency teams
arrived, he said.
Fifty firefighters and 15 fire tenders were deployed to contain the blaze.
Specialised fire units were dispatched from the Kota Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) and DCM to assist in the operation.
“It took nearly two hours and multiple refilling rounds by 15 fire tenders to bring the blaze under control,” Vyas said. PTI COR VN VN
