Ranchi, Sep 9 (PTI) Two workers were killed after an old water tank tower collapsed while it was being demolished in Ranchi on Wednesday evening, officials said.
The incident happened at 6 pm at the Zila School premises in the Kotwali police station area while workers were demolishing the old structure to make way for the construction of a new water tank, they said.
“Two workers have been killed in this incident. The body of one worker was recovered immediately after the collapse, while another worker was trapped under the debris,” ASP Nikhil Rai told PTI.
“A rescue operation continued for more than four hours, with two JCB machines deployed to clear the debris. The body of the second worker was recovered around 10.30 pm,” he said.
The deceased
were identified as Satya Bhuiyan (35) and Maithali Sharan Mehta, both residents of Palamu district, police said.
The bodies were sent to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for post-mortem examination, they said. PTI RPS SOM
