Nagesh Singh, India’s current Ambassador to Thailand, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia, the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement on Monday.
Singh will be replacing Gopal Baglay and is expected to take up the assignment shortly.
“Nagesh Singh (IFS: 1995), presently Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Australia. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly,” the MEA said in a statement.
Nagesh Singh is a 1995 batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) who has served as Consul General of India in Atlanta. He holds a master’s degree from the Delhi School of Economics, ANI reported.
Earlier this month, India and Monday renewed
their commitment to expand cooperation in education, research, and skill development at the third meeting of the Australia-India Education and Skills Council (AIESC), held in New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State Jayant Chaudhary along with Australian Education Minister Jason Clare and Skills Minister Andrew Giles.
Under the SPARC initiative, India has sanctioned Rs 9.84 crore for 10 new collaborative research projects with leading Australian universities. These projects will cover areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced computing, energy transition, MedTech, climate studies, smart mobility and space technology.
So far, 129 Indo-Australian research projects have been supported under SPARC.
