World No. 1 ODI batter Rohit Sharma opened the innings for India in the first ODI against New Zealand, which was played at BCA Stadium in Vadodara on Sunday (January 11), and scored 26 runs from 29 balls. During his stay at the crease in the series opener, Rohit slammed three fours and two sixes for the Shubman Gill-led side in the 301-run chase. Rohit, who holds the world record for hitting the most sixes in ODIs, T20Is, and international cricket, will have a chance to top the list of batters with the most sixes against New Zealand in ODIs on Wednesday (January 14).

In the second ODI, which is scheduled to take place at Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, if Rohit manages to hit 2 sixes, then he will break Shahid Afridi’s record and take the No.

1 position.

Afridi played 38 ODIs against New Zealand from 1996 to 2015 and slammed 50 sixes, whereas Rohit has 49 sixes to his credit in 32 ODIs played so far against the Black Caps.

In the second ODI, Rohit will also have a chance to go past Jacques Kallis’ tally of 11,579 runs and become the 8th highest run scorer in ODIs.

Kallis played a total of 328 ODIs from 1996 to 2014 and scored a total of 11,579 runs, whereas Rohit has 11,542 runs to his credit in 280 ODIs played so far for India since making his debut in June 2007 against Ireland in Belfast. He needs 38 more runs to go past Kallis’ tally.

The world record for scoring the most runs in ODIs is in the name of Sachin Tendulkar (18426), and he is followed by Virat Kohli (14650), Kumar Sangakkara (14234), Ricky Ponting (13704), Mahela Jayawardene (13430), Mahela Jayawardene (12650), Inzamam-ul-Haq (11739) and Kallis (11579).
