Kolkata, Aug 12 (PTI) An inquiry commission on Wednesday visited the Paschim Banga Bangla Akademi and Charu Kala Akademi to probe into alleged irregularities that allegedly took place in the Cultural Affairs Department during the previous Trinamool Congress government, an official said.
The Bangla Akademi is the state government’s regulatory agency for the Bengali language, while the Charu Kala Akademi promotes fine arts. Both function under the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs.
Senior IPS officer K Jayaraman, the member-secretary of the commission headed by retired Justice Biswajit Basu, spoke to officials of the institutions.
Jayaraman said the panel received complaints related to hosting events and associated corruption.
“We have
received some complaints about the Information and Cultural Affairs Department. Today, we visited Bangla Akademi and Charu Kala Akademi,” he said.
He declined to name any individual or disclose details of the complaints, but said, “No one will be spared.” PTI BSM NN
