Lucknow Super Giants may have endured a below-par IPL season, but the franchise kept faith in their core setup. They retained 17 players and traded in a couple of players, Mohammed Shami and Arjun Tendulkar, before entering the IPL mini-auction in Abu Dhabi.
LSG released the likes of David Miller, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Deep, and traded Shardul Thakur to MI. Additionally, Zaheer Khan also parted ways with the franchise after just one season.
They then roped in Bharat Arun as their bowling coach.
Overall, they used Rs 102.5 crore in retentions and trades, which left them with a purse of Rs 22.95 crore for the auction held on December 16. After adding six players to their squad, LSG were still left with Rs 4.55 crore. They spent big on Australian Josh
Inglis as they shelled out Rs 8.6 crore. It might appear a strange purchase given that Inglis has already informed of his limited availability for the upcoming season, but LSG have secured him keeping the future in mind.
Overall, LSG added three capped and as many uncapped players to their roster including Inglis, Anrich Nortje, Wanindu Hasaranga, Mukul Choudhary, Akshat Raghuwanshi, and Naman Tiwari.
LSG qualified for the IPL playoffs in their first two seasons but in the next two, they finished in the bottom half of the points table. Will the changes they’ve made help them finish in the top-four and also qualify for the final and perhaps bring them the trophy?
