14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi was in action for the India U-19 team in the first Youth ODI against Australia U-19 on Sunday, September 21, at Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane, and in the match that the Ayush Mhatre-led side won by seven wickets, he scored 38 runs from just 21 balls. During his stay at the crease, the young Indian batter hammered seven fours and one six.
He began his innings by hitting Hayden Schiller for a four on the opening ball of the run chase, followed by another boundary on the fourth ball of the same over. After scoring 8 runs from the first over, Suryavanshi could only manage to add one run to India’s total from three balls of the second over bowled by Charles Lachmund. However, in the third over, he once again smacked Schiller for fours
on the first, third and fourth balls.
In the fourth over of India’s innings, he smashed a six on the third ball bowled by Lachmund and scored back-to-back boundaries on the next two deliveries to reach the total of 36 runs from 20 balls. He was, however, unlucky to miss out on a deserving fifty. On the last ball of the fifth over of the run chase, he was sent back to the pavilion by Schiller. Aryan Sharma completed his catch and brought an end to his 22-ball 38-run knock.
