‘We Look Forward To Working Together’: US Embassy’s New Year Message On India Ties

The US Embassy in India marked the start of 2026 on Thursday with a message highlighting the strength of India–US ties and expressing optimism about deeper cooperation in the year ahead.

“Happy New Year! As we welcome 2026, we celebrate the strong partnership between the United States and India,” the Embassy said in a post on X. It added that Washington looked forward to working with New Delhi to further strengthen the relationship by “advancing shared prosperity, safety, and opportunity for our people.”

A day earlier, on December 31, the Embassy had shared a year-end wrap video highlighting key moments in India–US relations over the past year. Accompanying the video, the US mission wrote: “New year loading… but first, the rewind! Take a look

back at the top moments that shaped the U.S-India partnership this year, while we get ready for another year of even stronger #USIndia ties.”

The video featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United States and his meeting with President Donald Trump, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s engagement with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Summit, and a 10-year update on the India–US Defence Partnership Framework.

It also highlighted US Vice President JD Vance’s visit to India, progress in space cooperation including the NASA-ISRO Earth observation mission NISAR, and the appointment of Sergio Gor as the US envoy, underscoring sustained diplomatic engagement between the two sides.

On the economic front, while trade ties faced friction over tariffs and market access during the year, India and the US continued talks to address differences, with efforts under way to finalise a bilateral trade agreement.
