Pilibhit (UP), Sep 15 (PTI) A 55-year-old man was allegedly stripped, tied to an electric pole and thrashed here on Tuesday evening over suspicions that he stole a phone, police said.
The incident took place in the Bashir Khan locality in Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit. A video of the assault subsequently surfaced on social media.
Police reached the spot after receiving information and rescued the man from the crowd before taking him to the City police station, officials said.
The victim has been identified as Ajban, a resident of Kayasthan locality in Puranpur, police said.
According to police, some local residents suspected Ajban of stealing a mobile phone and caught hold of him.
Instead of informing the police, they allegedly began assaulting him, stripped
him and tied him to an electric pole before beating him.
Inspector Pramendra Kumar said the persons involved in the assault were being identified on the basis of the video. Action will be taken against those involved after the investigation, Kumar told reporters. PTI COR ABN SKY SKY
