What Do We Know About The Housemaid?
Based on a 2022 novel by Freida McFadden, which sold more than 3.5 million copies worldwide, The Housemaid follows Millie, a mysterious live-in housekeeper hiding a dangerous past. When she takes a job in a pristine mansion, she becomes entangled with Nina, a wife full of secrets, and Andrew, a seemingly perfect husband. The film stars Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar in lead roles.
Explaining why he chose to adapt the novel, Feig shared in the video, “I loved the twists and the turns of it. I loved the idea of getting to fool an audience with some big surprises, and I just thought the chance to work with these characters was just so much fun.”
He shared that while making the film, his focus was on translating the most crowd-pleasing elements into cinematic moments.
Paul Feig on the climax
Feigrevealed that The Housemaid’s climax rejected the novel’s ending and underwent a major transformation. “The book ends in a very satisfying place for a book, but I didn’t think it was a satisfying enough place for a movie,” he shared, adding, “You’re going to get a whole surprise because there’s a whole extra ending that is very satisfying, and it sort of ties everything up with the characters.” The film hit the theatres on January 1 in India. The psychological thriller premieres across Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google/YouTube on February 12.
