Fifteen-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was involved in a physical fight with Sri Lanka A cricketers on Monday’s tri-series match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla. The incident happened after a dramatic Super-Over in the match.
Nothing separated the two teams after 99.2 overs as Sri Lanka A failed to score two runs off the last ball, ending the innings at 265/9, tying the match. There was severe drama to get the Super-Over going and in the first over, the hosts managed to plunder a brilliant 18 runs.
But Sooryavanshi truly got involved only in the final three balls. Chasing 19, Suryansh Shedge used the first three balls, leaving the youngster needing to score 14 off the last three.
Pacer Kugathas Mathulan
got the first blow immediately with a pinpoint yorker that left Sooryavanshi pushing the ball down the ground for only two runs. The equation was still 12 needed from two balls when the batter pounced on a leg-side length delivery, whipping it away for four.
It left India needing an eight off the last ball, and Mathulan responded with another exceptional yorker angled wide outside off, which Sooryavanshi failed to lay bat on. As Sri Lanka celebrated, Shedge first and then Sooryavanshi was seen engaging in a close, heated argument with the players.
Sooryavanshi was also seen shoving one of the host cricketers before being separated away from them by another Sri Lankan player. According to PTI, it was the incessant sledging from the Sri Lankan cricketers that led to Sooryavanshi losing his temper.
A fresh video, uploaded by a fan on X, also shows how immediately after the last ball, several Sri Lankan cricketers made a point to say something to Sooryavanshi. Initially, the two batters kept walking off, but Shedge eventually turned and the Rajasthan Royals opener got involved.

Sooryavanshi will always be a target
This is something that young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will need to get used to. His exceptional returns in the IPL have made him one of the most popular cricketers in the world already, and everywhere he goes, every bowler and team would love to get him out early and shove it on his face.
And that will only get more intense as he scores more runs and breaks more records. While many greats, like Virat Kohli, fueled themselves with this intensity of the sport, at some stage, Sooryavanshi will need to start to remain slightly calmer and learn to respond with his bat, or at least avoid getting physical and risking bans and fines.
