Kantara Chapter 1, the Rishab Shetty starrer magnum opus mythological drama, has created a storm at the box office. Released on October 2, amid high expectations, the film has lived up to the audience’s expectations and garnered praise, especially for its stunning visuals, powerful storytelling and incredible action sequences.
As the film now enters its third week, it is now inches close to touching the Rs 500 crore mark at the domestic box office.
Kantara Chapter 1: Box Office Collection
As per an early estimate by sacnilk.com, the film minted a total of Rs 8.50 crore across all languages in India, taking its total 16-day collection to a whopping Rs 493.75 crore. With this trajectory, Kantara Chapter 1 will successfully cross the Rs 500 crore mark
in India today, October 18.
The film might see stiff competition, especially in the North chain, after the arrival of Ayushmann Khurrana’s horror comedy, Thamma and Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, which will be hitting the big screens on October 21.
Kantara Chapter 1: Box Office Performance
The magnum opus project collected a whopping Rs 337.4 crore in its first week, while the second week collection was Rs 147.85 crore, across all languages in India. It would be interesting to see how the film performs even after the arrival of two big projects.

It follows the story of a tribal warrior named Berme in 4th-century coastal Karnataka, who defends his people and their sacred forest against the encroaching Kadamba kingdom led by Prince Kulashekara. The film is a prequel to the original Kantara and explores the origins of the divine spirits, the Daivas Guliga and Panjurli, central to the region’s spiritual lore.
Kantara Chapter 1 OTT Release
The usual gap between theatrical and OTT release is six to eight weeks, and the digital release date for Kantara Chapter 1 is said to be October 30. This window is shorter, and given its great success at the box office, the OTT release date may even be moved back so that it has more time to perform in theatres.
