Kozhikode (Keralam), Aug 29 (PTI) A man was killed after being attacked by a gaur at Vilangad here on Saturday, police said.
The deceased was identified as Sunil (40), a native of Vayaad Colony in Vilangad.
According to police, a herd of gaurs (wild bisons) entered farmland in the area, following which forest officials were informed.
Forest officials and local residents joined efforts to drive the animals away.
It was during the attempt that Sunil was gored by one of the gaurs.
He was immediately taken to Kuttiady Taluk Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries, police said.
Sunil was a government employee working at a court in Chengannur in Alappuzha district and had come to his native place for the Onam holidays, they said.
Although solar fencing
has been installed along the forest boundary, it does not always have power, allowing wild animals to stray into agricultural land, police said.
Police have launched an investigation and are collecting details from the Forest Department, officials said.
The body will be handed over to relatives after postmortem, police added. PTI TBA TBA KH
