Hyderabad, Sep 18 (PTI) Telangana will host the southern regional DGPs’ conference in October to discuss cybercrime, drug trafficking, Left-Wing Extremism, organised crime, coastal security and emerging crime trends.
Telangana DGP C V Anand on Friday directed officials to make elaborate arrangements for the southern regional DGPs’ conference, a press release said.
The ongoing manpower audit and restructuring exercise in the Telangana Police Department has resulted in 376 personnel being brought back into the available police manpower after they were found to have been deployed with various retired employees.
The exercise has made available 20 bullet-proof vehicles and 83 other four-wheelers, Anand said during a staff officers’ meeting.

has also resulted in the withdrawal of 60 per cent of additional payments to 573 personnel of the Greyhounds anti-Naxal force and OCTOPUS (Organisation for Counter Terrorist Operations) anti-terror force, leading to an estimated saving of around Rs 28.16 crore.
Other similar measures have resulted in savings of around Rs 90 crore for the government, the DGP said.
Further, the restructuring of units such as the Greyhounds and Special Intelligence Branch has made personnel available for deployment in other departments based on operational requirements.
Anand reviewed the manpower restructuring exercise, shortage of home guards, recruitment process, election of a new association of IPS officers, Core Urban Region Economy area community-connect programmes and several other key administrative, budgetary and welfare issues at a meeting with staff officers.
The DGP decided to implement the ‘Fit Cop’ programme across the state as part of measures to improve the health and well-being of police personnel.
The programme will include basic health screening and awareness sessions on thyroid disorders, diabetes, nutrition and dietary habits. Personnel with health issues would be identified at an early stage and provided with necessary medical support.
Anand recalled that the initiative had been successfully implemented during his tenure as Hyderabad police commissioner.
A healthy police force, he said, would be better equipped to discharge its duties effectively.
Ahead of Police Commemoration Day on October 21, Anand suggested organising a week-long series of programmes to honour the sacrifices of police martyrs.
Blood donation camps and open houses would be organised, along with awareness programmes on cybercrime, drug abuse, child safety and other issues. Such initiatives would help enhance public awareness and strengthen engagement between the Police Department and the community, the DGP said. PTI VVK SSK
