Kim Soo Hyun In Big Trouble, Cosmetics Brand Ups Claims For Damages, Seeks $ 1.94 Million

A cosmetic company in South Korea has stepped up its claims for damages against actor Kim Soo-hyun, months after it cancelled its advertising contract with him. During the court hearing on November 21,

the cosmetics brand claimed that it had terminated its contract with the actor because of his dating scandal with the late actress Kim Sae Ron.

“We are unable to fulfill the contract because model Kim Soo-hyun violated the ‘maintaining dignity’ clause,” the company said and pointed out that even though the actor initially denied his relationship with Kim Sae-ron, he later changed his stance. The brand then increased the claims of its damages from 500 million won to 2.86 billion won, which is around $1.94 million.

“We applied the model fee in case of contract violation. If the duty to maintain dignity is violated, it is doubled. We measured the actual damages incurred. Currently, advertisers have terminated their contracts. The drama has finished filming, but its release has been halted. We will also submit evidence that a celebrity cannot fulfill his or her duties as a model,” the company stated.

For the unversed, the issue between the cosmetic brand and Kim Soo Hyun started earlier this year when the latter faced backlash for allegedly dating the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was just a minor. During this time, VT Cosmetics filed a case against Kim Soo Hyun, who was otherwise a model for their brand. They also terminated the contract with the actor and said, they found “significant reasons making it difficult to fulfill the advertising model contract.”

What Is Kim Soo Hyun And Kim Sae Ron Dating Scandal?

Kim Soo Hyun has been accused of dating the late actress Kim Sae Ron when she was just a minor. While the matter is still in court, the latter’s family made several allegations against Soo Hyun. However, Kim Soo Hyun previously held a press conference and addressed allegations. He said, “I’ll address the biggest concern—I did not date the deceased when she was a minor. We dated five years ago for about a year, long before Queen of Tears aired.”

The actor also explained why he denied dating Sae Ron earlier, saying, “As the lead actor of Queen of Tears, I couldn’t confirm the relationship publicly because of its potential impact on the cast and crew.” Kim also denied accusations that his agency pressured Sae Ron over her debts, saying, “Aside from the fact that we were both actors, we were simply an ordinary couple who broke up over time.”

Amid the ongoing controversy, Kim Soo Hyun’s career also went for a toss. His projects have been halted and brand deals have also been cancelled.
