Shreyas Iyer now tops the list of players with the most runs for India in a T20I series played in England. The right-handed batter from Mumbai, who is the captain of India’s T20I team, scored 80 runs for the Indian team in the fourth T20I against England, which is taking place at the County Ground in Bristol on Thursday (July 9). The knock of 80 runs from 49 balls by Iyer in the must-win match for India extended his tally of runs to 190 in the ongoing five-match series.

The previous record for scoring the most runs for India in a T20I series in England was in the name of Suryakumar Yadav. Yadav played three matches for the Indian team in the 2022 series against England and scored 171 runs in England.

In the ongoing series against England, Iyer scored 68 runs from 47 balls in the series opener played at the Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street on July 1. In the second T20I, he scored 37 runs from 22 balls but got out after scoring just five runs in the third match that India lost by 125 runs on July 7 at Trent Bridge.
The overall record for scoring the most runs in a T20I series in England is in the name of former Sri Lankan opening batter Tillakaratne Dilshan. Dilshan played seven matches for the Sri Lankan team in the 2009 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and scored 317 runs.
