Nakuul Mehta and wife Jankee Mehta welcomed their second baby, Rumi, in 2025, four years after they embraced parenthood for the first time. A while ago, speaking to us, he had shared that he was rather apologetic to Jankee for not being able to accompany her to a couple of appointments during her second pregnancy, as he was busy with the shoot of Space Gen: Chandrayaan.
Now, speaking exclusively to News18, Jankee says that Nakuul had to leave for a work commitment soon after she delivered their daughter but she has no qualms about the demanding nature of his profession. “When I delivered our second child, he could just be there for the delivery and had to go away for the next three days because he was shooting. But he wasn’t really absent,” she says.
“Even during my appointments, I knew he was going to come back home and I would get to share everything that he missed and show him the sonography pictures and reports. It’s not that big of a deal. He had to go to work at that point. We share such a deep connection that I knew that him not being there at that moment wasn’t really going to change anything,” Jankee adds.
Reacting to her remarks, Nakuul says, “We’re mentally connected. I was at work but I was still dialled in to know how her appointment went and how things are. I think it’s all good as far as you know that your intention to be present is all there. If you’ve taken up a professional gig, you’ll have to do it to the best of your ability. And this applies to everyone, not just actors.”
“The first time that we were pregnant, I knew that I’ll have to be with her, no matter where I was shooting. So, when I missed a couple of appointments this time around, I thought it’s not good on me. But I was committed to shoot. There were too many people waiting on set. I could’ve never imagined that I wouldn’t be there at the hospital with her,” he continues.
On a related note, speaking to us earlier, Nakuul’s Space Gen: Chandrayaan co-star Shriya Saran had revealed how ‘lost’ he was for not being able to be with Jankee as much he would’ve liked to. “During the shoot, Nakuul’s wife was expecting a second time. Imagine what it was for Jankee! She was already taking care of one child and was pregnant with another. There was a lot going on for her with Nakuul at work,” she had said.
Jankee, on the other hand, lauds Nakuul for being a supportive husband and says that she appreciates his ‘thehraav’ post parenthood. “He has become far more reflective, aware and present as a person. I’m definitely not complaining (laughs). Now, you really cherish those moments when you’re at home playing with your kids and you don’t want to miss out on things. You really want to be present in those moments,” she shares.
