It was a regular Monday for a 28-year-old engineer in Delhi. What he did not see coming, however, was losing his job abruptly, without any prior notice or warning. The employee was among those affected by layoffs at Innodata India Pvt Ltd.
According to India Today, nearly 550 employees in India have been affected by the sudden layoffs.
Employees said that their day began as usual. Workers logged into their systems and marked their attendance before starting their day. By lunchtime, workers gradually started losing access to company laptops. What followed was termination emails sent to their personal email accounts.
“One by one, we started losing access to our official devices. Laptops were logged out, and official IDs were deactivated“, said an employees,
reported India Today.
As per the report, job cuts have also been reported among the company’s team in the Philippines.
‘It Started As An Usual Monday Morning’
An employee said what began as an usual Monday morning took an unexpected turn after workers began losing access to their systems.
“It started as an usual Monday morning, with all of us logging in and recording our attendance before starting our daily work. And it continued just like it usually does, all hectic and chaotic up until lunch time,” the person told IndiaToday.in.
Soon, reports spread that the company’s Philippines team, including raters, quality experts, team leads, and operational manager, had been fired during a Zoom call meeting.
After the news circulated, workers in India began checking the company’s HR portal. To their surprise, they discovered that their payslips had been generated, with the portal mentioning October 26 as the official date of resignation and the last working day.
“We frantically reached out to our managers, who were also taken aback at the news,” said the employee.
As workers attempted reaching out to the HR team, some of them started losing access to their official devices.
“And while we were texting our HR team about the ‘rumour,’ one by one we started losing access to our official devices. Laptops were logged out, and official IDs deactivated,” the person said.
