PM Modi Independence Day Speech: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday made an appeal to the youth of the country to actively participate in the upcoming Census, saying even one or two hours of their time could provide “immense strength” to the nation.
While addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, the Prime Minister said urged young people to take the lead in ensuring greater public participation in the upcoming Census.

“I am asking for a favor, seeking help from all of you. To all the youth, I want you to take the lead in this. Just one or two hours of your time will provide immense strength to the nation,” he said.

He said that said young people may be wondering that how their one or two hours could contribute significantly to the country. He explained that their participation could help create an “enabling environment” for the Census in every household.
“Census work is going to take place across the country. The census counting is underway. Counting is not merely about accumulating raw statistics; it is through its intricate details that national policies and schemes are formulated, and the roadmap for the country’s progress is prepared. Therefore, having accurate and precise information is paramount…” the Prime Minister added.
He stressed the importance of collecting accurate and precise information, saying reliable Census data is crucial for framing government policies and welfare schemes and planning the country’s development.
The Prime Minister’s appeal comes as India prepares for Census 2027, which will provide updated demographic and socio-economic data for policymaking and planning.
Earlier on Friday, the Centre noticfied the a list of 40 questions that respondents will be asked during the population enumeration phase of Census 2027.

The questionnaire, notified by the Registrar General of India, covers a wide range of information about individuals — including their education, employment, migration, family details, languages, disability status and access to identity documents.
The population enumeration exercise will begin from September 1 to September 30 in Ladakh and snow-bound non-synchronous areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Respondents in these areas will have the option of self-enumeration from August 17 to 31, before the house-to-house exercise begins.
