A quiet, heartbreaking morning unfolded for the Odia film industry as news broke of the passing of one of its most loved musical voices. Composer Abhijit Majumdar, whose melodies shaped generations of Ollywood
cinema, died on Sunday in Bhubaneswar.
Renowned Odia music composer Abhijit Majumdar passed away on Sunday, January 25, at AIIMS in Bhubaneswar. He was 54. According to reports, Majumdar had been undergoing treatment since September 4, 2025, after being diagnosed with multiple health conditions, including hypertension, hypothyroidism and chronic liver disease. His condition deteriorated on Saturday night, following which he was placed on life support. He succumbed to his illness earlier today.
Majumdar is survived by his wife, Ranjita Majumdar, and their son. His death has cast a pall of grief across the Odia film fraternity, where he was regarded as one of the most influential composers of his generation.
Abhijit Majumdar began his musical journey in 1991 in the Sambalpuri industry. From 2000 onwards, he became an active and prominent force in Ollywood, composing music for films, albums and independent projects.
