Kannauj (UP), Sep 3 (PTI) A 25-year-old man accused under the POCSO Act, who escaped police custody on August 30, was arrested following an encounter early Thursday, officials said.
Kannauj SP Vinod Kumar said a joint team of police, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and surveillance unit surrounded Ankul Jatav, a resident of Purwanain village, around 3 am.
Ankul opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliatory firing in which he sustained a gunshot wound in his left leg. The accused has been shifted to a community health centre for treatment after being placed under arrest, Kumar said.
Police seized a country-made pistol, two live cartridges and three empty cartridges from his possession, he said.
Ankul was taken to a local court on August
30 in connection with a case registered under the BNS and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following his remand, he dodged the police and fled from custody. PTI COR ABN SMV SMV ARI ARI
