Shardul Thakur bowled four overs for the Mumbai Indians in their 12th match of the ongoing IPL 2026 season on Thursday (May 14) against the Punjab Kings and picked up 4 wickets for 39 runs. He opened his wicket account by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh on the second ball of the 12th over of PBKS’s innings and then picked up Shreyas Iyer’s wicket on the fourth ball of that same over.

While Prabhsimran, who made 57 runs from 32 balls, was caught by Corbin Bosch, Shardul breached Iyer’s defence after he opened his account by hitting Thakur for a four on the first ball of his innings.
Shardul’s third wicket came in the form of Suryansh Shedge. Suryansh, who represents Mumbai in domestic cricket,
was caught by Raj Bawa on the second ball of the 14th over for 8 runs from 5 balls. And Shardul then bowled Marco Jansen (2) on the second ball of 17th over to complete his four-fer.
The super show by Shardul in Dharamsala on Thursday helped him become only the third MI bowler and first in 15 years to take four or more wickets in an IPL match against Punjab Kings.
Legendary Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga was the first bowler to take four wickets in an IPL match for MI against PBKS. Malinga finished with figures of 4 for 22 in four overs against PBKS at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on March 30, 2010.
On May 10, 2011, during an IPL match played at PCA Stadium in Mohali, Munaf Patel dismissed 5 PBKS batters for 21 runs in four overs.

For Mumbai Indians, apart from Shardul, Deepak Chahar picked up two wickets for 36 runs in four overs, and one PBKS batter each was sent back to the pavilion by Corbin Bosch and Raj Angad Bawa.
But despite losing wickets at regular intervals, PBKS managed to post a total of 200 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets.
