Rani Mukerji Is Scared Of 'Gen Alpha' Daughter Adira, And Moms Find It Relatable

Bollywood actor Rani Mukerji has opened up about motherhood in today’s fast-changing world, sharing honest and often relatable thoughts on raising her daughter Adira in a time shaped by technology and strong young voices. Rani spoke about how parenting a Gen Alpha child comes with its own surprises, adjustments and moments of awe.

The actress shared on Zoom’s YouTube channel podcast series Spotlight Sessions that children have changed since her generation, pointing out that she is scared of her daughter sometimes. Rani also shared Adira’s favourite movies of hers and how she reacted to her National Award win.

She admitted that children today grow up very differently from earlier generations and are

far more expressive about what they feel. “She also fires me. She is Gen Alpha, so she fires me, and I have to listen to her. Because every generation changes. I used to get slaps from my mom. I can’t expect to do that with her because she would slap me back. She was jumping in the house while the National Awards were happening. It’s very sweet, but because she is an Alpha kid, I am very scared of her,” Rani said, adding a touch of humour to her candid confession.

She also spoke about Adira’s emotional connection to her work and how her daughter reacts to seeing her on screen. “Though she has not seen my films because she’s too attached and she feels sad when she sees me cry, she finds it difficult to watch me on screen. She likes to see me when I’m dancing and when I am happy on screen. She loves Hichki, Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, and Bunty Aur Babli. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was tough for her to watch because, in the first scene, I die, so I couldn’t go beyond that,” the actress shared.

Rani shared how Adira reacts to her makeup and said, ” When I am wearing makeup, she tells me, ‘Mamma, you are not looking like my mother.’ So when I remove my makeup and come to her, she tells me, ‘Now you look like my mother’.”

In the same interview, Rani got emotional and shared that she misses her late father, After my dad (Ram Mukherjee) passed away, I really miss getting his feedback on my performance. It is tough, but God balances things. He gave me my daughter. She is extremely close to me, and she is extremely proud of me. My daughter has taken my father’s place. She is my biggest cheerleader today.”

On the work front, Rani Mukerji is preparing for the release of Mardaani 3, slated to hit theatres on January 30, 2025. The film is expected to continue her powerful run in the franchise.
