The Indian women’s cricket team will wear pink jerseys on Saturday, September 20, in the three-match ODI series decider against Australia, in a bid to promote breast cancer awareness, in Delhi.
In India, the most common cancers in women are breast, cervical and ovarian, with breast and cervical cancers accounting for 40% of cases.
Cervical cancer is associated with infections like human papillomavirus, whereas breast and ovarian cancers are often driven by hormonal factors.
“This pink jersey is a reminder of a bigger fight. This pink jersey is more than just a symbol. Every day we train for uncertainties and this pink jersey is a reminder for you to be prepared and the strength for this fight against breast cancer comes from early detection,” Harmanpreet,
Pratika Rawal and Sneh Rana said while speaking on a BCCI video.

The increase in hormone-related cancers is linked to lifestyle changes such as delayed pregnancies, shorter breastfeeding periods, obesity and sedentary habits.
As per the World Health Organisation, in affluent nations, one in 12 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, but only one in 71 will die from it.
India’s third ODI against Australia
Buoyed by a record-breaking display, India will aim for their first-ever women’s ODI series victory over Australia when the two teams meet in the decider in Delhi on Saturday, September 20.
The hosts have never defeated the mighty world champions in a bilateral series and a victory over Australia in Delhi wouldn’t only bag that long-awaited win but boost confidence and momentum ahead of the World Cup beginning September 30 as well.
After being outplayed in the opener, Harmanpreet and her side roared back with a brilliant 102-run win, which was Australia’s heaviest loss in terms of runs. It was India’s first victory over the mighty Aussies in 12 games.
