Hyderabad, May 27 (PTI) Telangana Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday assured farmers that there was “absolutely no need for panic” over paddy drenched in unseasonal rain during the current summer.
Reddy, who held a video conference with ministerial colleagues, district collectors and other officials, asserted that the state government activated an “intensive emergency response mechanism” to save soaked grain and ensure procurement till the last grain reaches the procurement centres.
He said the review meeting was convened in view of sudden rains and adverse weather conditions affecting paddy procurement operations in several districts, according to a press release.
He said the government has been conducting daily monitoring
of procurement operations and fixing district-wise procurement targets.
While many districts have shown strong performance, unseasonal rains in some areas led to paddy getting drenched at procurement centres, prompting immediate intervention by the administration, he said.
Telangana has so far recorded 66.75 lakh metric tonnes (LMT ) of paddy arrivals, and nearly 57 LMT of total arrivals have already been procured.
The government has released Rs 10,096 crore directly into the accounts of over 8.14 lakh farmers towards the minimum support price of procured paddy, he said. PTI SJR SJR ADB
