A trip to Lonavala turned deadly for four Symbiosis International University students. Two students, identified as Divya Raj Singh Rathod and Siddhant Anand Shekhar, died in a car accident on the Mumbai-Bengaluru highway near Pune’s Eidgah Maidan.
Around 5:45 am, the car, a Maruti Swift, collided with a parked container truck. Two other students, Harsh Mishra and Nihar Tamboli, were injured and hospitalised.
The students were returning from Lonavala when the accident occurred. The four BBA students went to Lonavala, about a 90-minute drive, last night and were returning to campus this morning when the accident occurred, NDTV reported.
The truck driver, Manish Kumar Suraj Manipal, has been taken into custody, and an investigation is underway to determine
the cause of the accident.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, a man was killed after being run over by a police vehicle near the Gole Market area on Thursday morning, officials said.
According to police, the incident was reported near the Ram Krishna Ashram Metro Station when the driver of a police control room (PCR) van accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to mount a roadside ramp and hit the man.
The deceased has been identified as Gangaram Tiwari. The victim is learnt to have died on the spot. Subsequently, the driver of the PCR van, Constable Khimesh Singh, was arrested.
The victim’s son, however, claimed that two individuals — one of them a woman — were inside the vehicle at the time of the accident. He further alleged that both occupants appeared to be intoxicated and that liquor bottles were found in the police van.
