Wanted gangster Harsimran, also known as Badal and Simran, was arrested by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, with assistance from central agencies. He was later deported from Bangkok earlier this week, officials said on Saturday.
Badal was taken into custody on November 26 upon arrival and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
Who Is Harsimran?
Harsimran, also known as Badal and Simran, 38, a resident of East Shalimar Bagh, had left India in January using a forged passport and was trying to build himself into an international gangster operating from Europe and the United States, in alleged collaboration with Goldy Dhillon, the suspected mastermind behind the shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma’s café in Canada.
According to the police, Harsimran is involved in 23 cases, including extortion, murder, attempt to murder, and violations of the Arms Act, and had stopped appearing in the trial court in 14 ongoing cases after securing bail.
Harsimran has been arrested by the Special Cell under Sections 318, 339 and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as provisions of the Arms Act, police said.
Harsimran’s criminal background traces back to his teenage years in Delhi, when he trained as a wrestler at various akharas and came into contact with seasoned criminals linked to the Samunder, Manoj and Vijay alias Naughty gangs, police said.
Over time, he allegedly built his own extortion network in North and Northwest Delhi, targeting those who refused to pay through threats and violence. His alleged involvement in multiple shootings, intimidation cases and extortion rackets is said to have spanned nearly two decades.
Officials said further investigation into his network and overseas links is underway.
