It’s been 11 years since we last saw Imran Khan in a film, and fans have been waiting to see him back on screen. The actor is all set to return with Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, which also stars Bhumi Pednekar. But just when things were looking up, a new development may have put his comeback plans in a bit of a fix.
What Happens To Imran Khan’s Comeback Film Now?
The film was reportedly eyeing a December 2026 premiere on Netflix. However, according to a report by Mid-Day, the makers are now discussing whether to push the release after Imran received a notice asking him to leave India by October 28.
The team was expected to start promoting the film after Diwali. Those plans may now have to wait while the makers figure out their next move. A source quoted
by the publication said, “The plan was to begin promotions after Diwali and build towards the release. Now, however, a deferment is being discussed.”

For now, the makers are reportedly holding off on the promotional campaign until there is more clarity on the actor’s situation. There is no official confirmation yet that the film’s release has been postponed.
Why Has Imran Khan Been Asked To Leave India?
The issue goes back to a protest held in Mumbai on October 10, 2026. The demonstration called for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Imran, who is a US citizen and an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholder, was detained by Mumbai Police during the protest and later released. The demonstrations were held at August Kranti Maidan, Hutatma Chowk and other locations in Mumbai.
The matter took a turn after BJP leader Kirit Somaiya approached the police, alleging that the actor’s participation in the demonstration violated rules for foreign nationals and OCI cardholders.
In a letter to Mumbai Joint Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Sharma, Somaiya sought clarity on whether Khan had obtained permission to participate in the agitation. The former MP also requested a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Khan, prohibiting his departure from India pending the inquiry over his citizenship.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut condemned the decision, alleging that the government was scared. “They labelled him a foreign national and told him to leave the country. There are many other artists in Bollywood who are foreign nationals, some from Canada, some from Dubai, some from the UAE, and others from various other countries. So, compile a list of all of them and tell them all to leave. Just because one artist participated in a protest, you are telling him to leave?” he added.
Imran Khan’s Instagram Post After Detention
Following his detention on October 10, Khan posted on a social media platform from a police van, saying, “Apparently, I am going for a drive.” A video that surfaced later showed the actor responding to a reporter’s question about his participation in the protest as he was being taken into the police vehicle.
“I have no demands. I am not part of any organisation,” Khan said in the video. He was also seen questioning the police action, asking, “What have I done? Why am I being manhandled?”
How Is Imran’s Team Handling The Situation?
Imran was subsequently issued a notice directing him to leave India by October 28.
Imran’s team is reportedly preparing to challenge the notice issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), along with the police summons connected to the protest. His lawyer, Zulfiqar Memon, has said that they are preparing for a legal battle. The team is also disputing the claim that Imran actively participated in the demonstration.
According to his lawyer’s reported account, the actor was merely passing through Nana Chowk when barricades were put up and media personnel approached him. His legal team is now seeking CCTV footage to establish where he was and whether he was actually involved in the protest.
