Sourav Joshi’s resounding success on YouTube is no fluke. The 26-year-old vlogger, hailing from Uttarakhand’s Someshwar, grew up in a lower-middle-class household. His father worked as a carpenter while
his mother was a homemaker. After facing a setback after his 12th grade, Joshi returned home, where he began drawing. Upon his brother’s insistence, Joshi opened a YouTube channel in 2017. The vlogger initially faced an identity crisis on YouTube, trying out several names for his channel before settling on Sourav Joshi Vlogs. Undeterred by the lack of recognition in his early days, Joshi continued his pursuit, fueled by a burning ambition for fame and fortune.
So what catapulted Joshi to incredible success, making him one of the biggest YouTube channels in India?
Early Day Struggles
Joshi’s early days on YouTube were unremarkable. His dreams of joining an art college were shattered. Hailing from a family where his father struggled to make ends meet, Joshi began uploading art on YouTube.
However, despite having uploaded 250-odd videos on his arts and sketches channel, Joshi’s subscriber count lingered at around 3-4K subscribers. Unbothered by the snail-paced growth online, the YouTuber’s decision to feature all his family members in one of his 2019 vlogs changed the trajectory of his social media career.
He possessed no fancy equipment, and his introversion was palpable. But this worked in his favour.
Desi audiences found his mannerisms, the rawness in the uploads, and “middle-class” family content extremely relatable. With a newfound “viral” connection and viewers who kept tuning in to his family vlogs, Joshi set himself a ludicrous goal during the 2020 global pandemic lockdown.

The Rise
It was when whole of India was confined to their homes during the lockdown Joshi decided to go full throttle. The vlogger set himself a target of posting a vlog every day for 365 days without a break. This decision changed his life.
“During the lockdown in 2020, I took on an ambitious project of creating 365 vlogs in 365 days. To my astonishment, my videos rapidly gained viral status on YouTube, resulting in a flood of new subscribers to my channel. By 2021, I became one of India’s fastest-growing vlogger, a testament to my hard work,” Joshi told News18.com in an interview dated 2023.
His family, who pretty much lived around him, became his content. During the interview, he revealed that he did not chase trends. He didn’t need to. His daily life on YouTube as a vlogger became his content and ultimately the online trend.
That his vlogs were family-friendly enabled his exponential growth. People from different age groups tuned in regularly. Kids could sit with their grandparents and enjoy Joshi’s vlogs without any awkwardness seeping into the room.
The Relatability
Watching his interactions with ghar ke log, the banters, the shared love, the simplicity made Joshi a household name in India. The YouTuber did not shy away from showing his riches. From luxury stays to luxury cars to displaying his lavish house to travelling on private jets: Joshi’s goal wasn’t to “flex” on his audience but inspire them. If he could, so could a young boy hailing from a small town.
“I don’t think of myself as another vlogger; I try to be someone that every young boy from small towns and cities can resonate with, inspiring them to dream big and reach for the stars,” he told News18.com.
The Money
Joshi, who recently tied the knot with Avantika Bhatt in an intimate ceremony held on the ghats of Rishikesh, has always been candid about the wealth he has amassed from YouTube and brand collaborations.
In the YouTube-influencer world, where a creator’s growing wealth can sometimes alienate their audience, who no longer find their OG creator relatable, Joshi has often embraced his chunky vlogging payouts on-screen with sincerity.
During a stay at a lavish property, he addressed the elephant in the room. “Yes, I am living the life. That’s why I tell you guys to create content. Make videos. Bring your unique ideas out. Who knows, they might work.”
He added that YouTubers and influencers get to travel the world, stay in fancy hotels, and gain new experiences. And it did not happen overnight for him as it took him over eight or more years to get where he is now.
How Much Does He Earn?
Although the online analytics about Joshi’s monthly income from YouTube are preposterous, Joshi, in a brief interview, revealed that each time he pumped out a video on YouTube, the money he earned from that upload could buy him a Mahindra Thar Roxx.
