Kaushambi (UP), Sept 5 (PTI) Three children, including two brothers, drowned while bathing in the Yamuna river in the Mahawa Ghat area of Kaushambi district on Saturday evening, police said.
The deceased were identified as siblings Karan Nishad, 11, and Sunny Nishad, 10, sons of Rajesh Nishad, and their 13-year-old neighbour Brijendra Nishad, son of Sonu. All three were residents of Mahawa Ghat village.
According to police, the children had gone to bathe in the river near their village when they accidentally ventured into deep waters and drowned.
People nearby tried to rescue them after hearing their cries, but the children had disappeared underwater.
On being informed by villagers, police reached the spot and launched a search with the help of
local divers, Station House Officer Dhirendra Singh said.
After about an hour of searching, divers recovered the bodies of all three children from the river, he said.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further legal proceedings are underway, police said. PTI COR CDN MDO MDO
