The anticipation surrounding Drishyam 3 has been steadily growing, with fans eager to see how the next chapter of Georgekutty’s gripping story unfolds. The buzz around the film heightened further after Panorama Studios recently acquired its theatrical, digital rights. This major deal also triggered widespread speculation on social media about whether the Hindi version starring Ajay Devgn and Malayalam version led by Mohanlal would be released simultaneously. Director Jeethu Joseph has recently dismissed all rumours and confirmed that the Malayalam version will release first.
Times Now has reported that Jeethu Joseph reacted to the question related to the release date of Drishyam 3. He said, “No…we will release first after 2 months; only they
can release.” Earlier, Panorama Studios announced that they have acquired the rights of Drishyam 3 from the Malayalam production house, Aashirvad Cinemas.
Drishyam 3 Will Be Very Different From Parts 1 And 2
Speaking exclusively to SCREEN, Jeethu Joseph emphasized that his approach to Drishyam 3 is rooted strictly in the internal logic of the characters. “I’ve created only one franchise so far, that’s Drishyam. Nonetheless, it’s an organic approach that I have used there,” he said. “That was the case with Part 2, and it will be the same with Drishyam 3.”
Jeethu addressed audience expectations head-on, after many fans expressed hopes that the new film would surpass the brilliance of Drishyam 2.
“People told me, ‘Drishyam 2’s script was amazing, and we expect something better than that.’ But I’m not consciously trying to write a ‘better-than-Drishyam 2’ script just for the sake of it. My focus is only on Georgekutty and his family, and on what could have happened in their lives over the six or seven years since Part 2.”
Characters Have Grown—and Their World Has Changed
Jeethu revealed that while Georgekutty retains certain defining qualities, other elements of his personality and circumstances will reflect the passage of time.
He explained that Rani (Meena), Anju (Ansiba Hassan), and Anu (Esther Anil) have also undergone meaningful evolution. The filmmaker noted how Anu, who was a child when the pivotal incident occurred, has now matured into a young adult—a change the film will acknowledge with emotional nuance.
Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam 3
The Drishyam franchise has been one of the most successful crime thrillers. The film has been made in different languages, including Bollywood. Ajay Devgn has been seen in both the first and second installments. And recently, it was reported that he would be announcing on October 2, but it did not go as planned. As reported, Drishyam 3 has reportedly hit a roadblock, with the official announcement being delayed due to a creative clause between the Hindi and Malayalam production teams. Times Now has quoted an insider saying, “There is an understanding between the makers of the Malayalam franchise, Jeethu and Antony, and the Hindi remake’s producer Kumar Mangat. Apparently, one of the adaptation clauses states that the Hindi team cannot make any announcement about their film’s content without the permission of the original’s makers.”
