Beed, Jun 24 (PTI) A 42-year-old man with a long history of criminal activities has been detained in Maharashtra’s Beed district under the stringent Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities (MPDA) Act, police said on Wednesday.
The individual, identified as Siddhartha Shahadev Patekar, has been sent to Harsul Central Jail in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, they said. The detention order was issued by District Collector Vivek Johnson on June 23.
Police said Patekar faces several cases, including attempted murder, obstructing public servants, violating prohibitory orders, robbery, assault, and criminal intimidation.
Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat said that this action is part of a broader campaign to eradicate organised crime, “goondaism”,
and the illegal sand mafia from the district.
MPDA provides for the preventive detention of individuals such as slumlords, bootleggers, drug offenders, “dangerous persons”, sand smugglers, human traffickers and persons engaged in black-marketing of essential commodities without trial for up to 12 months. PTI COR NR
