An email claiming that a bomb had been planted at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Shastri Bhavan created panic on Friday morning.
The police acted promptly on receiving the information, and a Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team, along with a sniffer dog unit, was rushed to the ED’s southern regional office in Nungambakkam. The entire building was searched, but no explosives were found.
“It was found to be a hoax,” a senior police official confirmed.
This is the latest in a series of false bomb threats reported across the country in recent weeks. On October 28, Chennai police received fake bomb threat emails targeting actors Rajinikanth and Dhanush, which also turned out to be hoaxes after investigation.
Just days earlier, on
October 24, over 300 schools in Delhi received similar bomb threat emails, forcing mass evacuations before officials confirmed them as fake.
According to the fire department, the first alert was received at 8.15 AM regarding a bomb threat at the CRPF School in Sector 16, Dwarka. Another threat was reported at 8.20 AM from Sant Darshan Public School in Nangloi.
The threatening email was sent by a group identified as ‘Terrorizers 111’, which has a history of sending similar threats, officials said.
On October 18, the Tirupati Collectorate in Andhra Pradesh received an anonymous bomb threat email. However, a thorough search revealed the threat to be a hoax.
According to officials cited by PTI, bomb squad and dog squad teams inspected various sections of the Collectorate and surrounding areas. After checking the Collector’s chamber and other offices, authorities confirmed that no explosive materials were found.
