Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway have been enjoying a jet-set press tour for the promotion of their new film The Devil Wears Prada 2. The duo are currently in Shangai for their premiere and Meryl Streep took another hit at wearing blue for the event.
For the unversed, cerulean, a shade of blue, had a major moment during the franchise’s first film. For her Shanghai premiere look, Meryl Streep wore a custom-made funnel-neck Saint Laurent silk coat dress. It had a lovely shade of deep blue, and the knee-length dress was cinched with an attached black belt. The dress had exaggerated shoulders that gave it an oversized look, with three-quarter length sleeves that were pushed up to her elbows for a boss-woman look.
The actor added a sparkling diamond
rose brooch to round off the ensemble. She also wore a couple of diamond rings and tiny earrings to add just the right amount of dazzle to the outfit.

Meryl Streep was styled by Micaela Erlanger, who complemented the truly fashionable piece with sheer black tights, black satin pumps, and large dark sunglasses, which is a signature for Miranda Priestly.
Meryl Streep on representing older women in the film industry
Currently on the press tour to promote her new movie, Meryl Streep, in a recent interview spoke about how she is happy that she is able to represent older women and play lead roles like her character Miranda Priestly in movies.
In a video shared by The Associated Press on Instagram, the 76-year-old actress said, “I do think that there’s something in this one that’s unusual, because you don’t see many 70-, almost 77-year-old women playing parts like this in any movie or under any circumstance…So I’m happy to represent, you know.”
Meryl Streep also shone a spotlight on the trend that as female actors get older, they begin to disappear from mainstream media in Hollywood. This might take place because they choose to step back from film projects, do not get roles that they want to play or are relegated to supporting cast instead of being made the lead, like earlier.
“Often women over 50, I’d say, disappear into the woodwork… Their interests and opinions are less valued in our culture, so it’s fun to see this person who is credibly placed in the world and having that influence,” the actor added.
The video comes ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada 2, a sequel to the 2006 hit film, which will bring back Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt alongside Meryl Streep. The film is set to release on May 1.
About The Devil Wears Prada 2
The Devil Wears Prada 2 will follow Meryl Streep’s character, Miranda Priestly, who is the editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. She is grappling with the fact that print journalism is on the decline and is attempting to find her footing in a struggling industry.
She finds herself in conflict with Emily Blunt’s character, who used to be assistant earlier and is now a powerful executive at a luxury group controlling advertising revenue that Miranda Priestly urgently needs.
Now serving as a features editor, Andy Sachs is brought in to help Miranda Priestly and the magazine navigate a crisis that has caused plummeting stock and damaging press for the magazine.
The Devil Wears Prada is based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2003 novel, inspired by her experiences as an assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour. Directed by David Frankel, the movie was released on June 30, 2006.
