New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The national capital saw a sharp dip in the maximum and minimum temperatures on Saturday, as the city received light to moderate rain throughout the day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for Saturday, warning of possible moderate rain in several parts of the city.
Safdarjung, the city’s base weather station, recorded a minimum temperature of 24.8 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degrees below the normal and a 3.4-degree decrease from the day before. The maximum temperature was logged at 27.6 degrees Celsius, 6.5 degrees below the normal and a 7.5-degree dip from the day before.
According to IMD data, Safdarjung recorded 0.7 mm of rain in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday, between 11.30 pm
on Friday and 5.30 am on Saturday. The weather station also recorded 1.3 mm of rain in the subsequent three hours till 8.30 am.
Safdarjung also recorded 22 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 11.30 am, 4.6 mm of rain in the next three hours till 2.30 pm and 3.2 mm of rain in the subsequent three hours.
Meanwhile, Palam recorded a maximum of 27.2 degrees Celsius, a 4.8-degree dip from Friday and a minimum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius, 3.5 degrees lower than the day before; Lodhi Road recorded a minimum of 24.7 degrees Celsius; Ayanagar recorded a minimum of 24 degrees, a three-degree decrease from the day before.
Palam recorded 25.2 mm of rain from 8.30 am to 11.30 am, and 10.4 mm of rain between 11.30 am and 2.30 pm.
Lodhi Road recorded 24.4 mm between 8.30 am and 11.30 am, 4.4 mm of rain in the three hours and 2 mm of rain between 2.30 pm and 5.30 pm.
IMD has forecast light to moderate rain across Delhi on Sunday as well.
“Generally cloudy skies are expected on Sunday. A spell of very light to light rain at many places accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning towards morning is expected,” said an IMD official, adding that another spell of light to moderate rain is expected in the later hours of Sunday.
According to the IMD forecast, the maximum is likely to be around 31-33 degrees Celsius on Sunday. The minimum temperature is expected to be around 24-26 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the air quality index (AQI) of the city remained in the satisfactory category on Saturday morning and the 24-hour average AQI was recorded at 59 (satisfactory) at 4 pm, as compared to the 24-hour average AQI of 71 (satisfactory) recorded at the same time on Friday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 0-50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’, and 401-500 ‘severe’. PTI AHD AMJ AMJ
