After years away from the spotlight, actor Rajat Bedi is back in conversation thanks to Aryan Khan’s upcoming series The Ba**ds of Bollywood. But the actor’s real-life story is no less dramatic than the roles he’s played on screen. In a new interview, Rajat opened up about the darkest period of his life — when financial stress, professional disappointment, and mental health struggles pushed him to the brink.
Rajat, best remembered for his performances in films like Koi… Mil Gaya and Jaani Dushman, revealed that he was often forced to forgo payments when producers suffered losses. “I have been a part of a lot of hit films. But never did I get my due; others would take the dues, celebrate the success and all. And I would just be, ‘okay,’ carry
on to the next project. And somewhere that was very disheartening,” he said in an interview with Mid-day.
The actor said that the uncertainty of his career left him struggling with severe anxiety and sleeplessness. “At one point, I was completely done; I was having nervous breakdowns. I was on tablets. I was taking rest pills to sleep at night. I was not getting sleep because I was constantly thinking of how the house would run,” he shared. His wife eventually suggested leaving India to start afresh.
In 2007, Rajat moved to Canada with his family and began a real estate business. But fate had other plans. “In 2012, we faced a huge setback. There were partnership issues, and the whole company went for a toss. We were in financial turmoil after doing business with around 200 million Canadian dollars,” he recalled.
Even after recovering once, Rajat’s second business attempt collapsed in 2018 following another betrayal. “My partners cheated me so badly that we got into a legal battle and had a settlement. The trauma we faced between 2018 and 2021 was crazy,” he said.
Now, after years of struggle, Rajat is reclaiming his space in the industry with Aryan Khan’s The Ba**ds of Bollywood*, finally earning the recognition he long deserved.
