Star England all-rounder Sam Curran on Friday became just the second bowler from his country to pick a T20I hat-trick, after Chris Jordan’s feat in 2024. Curran dismissed Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirana to crumble Sri Lanka in the first game of the three-match T20I series.
Curran conceded 20 runs in an earlier over but bounced back in the penultimate over with a hat-trick, dismissing Shanaka, Theekshana and Pathirana off successive balls to leave Sri Lanka in turmoil.
Curran showed his death bowling prowess in the 17-over-per-team game, becoming only the second England bowler to claim a hat-trick in T20Is. Jordan was the first to achieve the feat against the USA in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Curran also became the sixth bowler to take a T20I hat-trick against Sri Lanka.

Curran thus bounced back from a hard opening spell to claim a memorable hat-trick, while Adil Rashid signalled his World Cup readiness with another dominant performance, as England bagged a rain-shortened victory over Sri Lanka in the first T20I at Pallekele.
Persistent rain caused a 90-minute delay, reducing the series opener to a 17-overs-per-team contest. England later returned to chase a modest target of 133 and, with the ground still covered in the groundstaff’s signature blue tarpaulins, the game was called off with England 11 runs ahead of the DLS-adjusted target of 114.
