The Ministry of Home Affairs on Sunday appointed senior IAS officer Rajeev Verma as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi.
“With the approval of the competent authority, Rajeev Verma, IAS, AGMUT cadre, 1992 batch, is hereby transferred from Chandigarh to Delhi and posted as chief secretary, GNCTD, w.e.f. 01.10.2025 or from the date of joining, whichever is later,” an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

Verma will assume charge, effective October 1, succeeding
Dharmendra, who is set to retire on September 30.
Who Is Rajeev Verma?
A 1992-batch IAS officer from the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, Verma is currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh. Prior to that, he held the position of Advisor to the Administrator and Additional Secretary in Chandigarh from 2022 to 2024.
Born in 1966, he hails from Uttar Pradesh. As per media reports, he earned a Graduate degree in Computer Science from the University of Roorkee, and pursued MTech in Computer Science from an IIT.
He later joined the IAS and went on to serve in both Delhi and at the Centre. Verma has over three decades of administrative expertise. He previously served in the Delhi government as the Finance and Revenue Secretary from 2018 to 2022, along with key roles in the Transport department and other senior positions within various Delhi government departments.
At the central level, he has served in important roles across the Defence, Power, and Health & Family Welfare ministries.
