Mumbai’s Syed Mushtaq Ali title defence has entered a crucial phase as they gear up for the Super League phase, starting December 12 in Pune. The Mumbai squad has received a significant boost with the inclusion of young opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander has confirmed his availability to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA). However, the cricketing body is yet to hear anything from former India captain Rohit Sharma.
The knockout matches of the premier domestic T20 tournament will be played from December 12 to 18 in Pune. According to a report in the Times of India on Thursday, December 4, Rohit expressed his desire to play for his domestic side. But now, it has been learned that doubt looms over his participation.
According to RevSportz,
Rohit is unlikely to feature in the domestic T20 tournament, although he is all but certain to turn up for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, starting on December 24.
“We haven’t heard anything from Rohit yet,” the report quoted a senior MCA official as saying.
On the other hand, Jaiswal’s availability for the SMAT knockouts is confirmed.
“Yashasvi has confirmed his participation for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy,” the official added.
Rohit’s Record In SMAT
Rohit is India’s highest run-getter in T20Is with 4231 runs in 159 matches. Last played a T20 match on June 1, 2025, for the Mumbai Indians against the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025. In that fixture, he got out after scoring 8 runs from 7 balls at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Mumbai’s Campaign in SMAT 2025
Defending champions Mumbai topped Elite Group A with five wins from six and will now compete in the Super League stage starting December 12. The knockout matches will be held across two Pune venues, with the final slated for December 18.
With Jaiswal set to join an already settled squad and Rohit’s availability still uncertain, Mumbai head into the next phase with strong momentum but a couple of key selection decisions to navigate.
